What you ought to know about the Eucharist

Jesus wanted to give his followers a continuing sign of his presence and love for them, which would sustain them even if they could no longer physically see him. At the Mass we believe that Jesus is really present, just as He was present two thousand years ago

Pre-catechumenate or inquiry period

Conversion is a gradual process as well as a community and personal journey of faith that leads to a transformation of mind and spirit. The first step in this journey is the inquiry phase: a time to get your questions answered and think about whether or not this is for you.

Although we keep a set timeframe of several weeks for this phase, the duration of this phase for you as a candidate may vary depending on your own personal faith awakening. During this period we typically engage in activities that introduce you into our parish life and our community of leaders and sponsors.

Scheduled activities include:
• Sharing stories about the Catholic faith
• Attending Mass every Sunday at 9:00 am
• Answering questions about why Catholics do the things they do.
• Proclaiming the message of salvation through the Word
• Introduction into parish life
• Bible and church history
• Learning about our Church and the Mass
• Building trust through team activities

During this phase, we also work closely with your sponsor in providing guidance and ensuring we have adequate methods and materials to support your progress.

There are no specific rites celebrated during this phase. However, when the participant feels ready to move to the next phase, then the Rite of Acceptance is celebrated.

Rite of Acceptance

The Rite of Acceptance is a celebration among the congregation, where the inquirers or participants publicly declare to the church their intentions to continue their faith journey. As part of this rite, St. John the Evangelist welcomes and accepts them as persons who intend to become its members.

This rite marks the beginning of the Catechumenate period.

The celebration consists of:

• Reception of the candidates and Catechumens
• Celebration of the Word of God
• Dismissal of the candidates and Catechumens

Get closer to God through RCIA at St. John the Evangelist. Whether as a candidate or sponsor, you will attain a high level of spirituality and grace through the teachings of Jesus.
