about us - Mission and vision

“Here I am. You called me.” Samuel 3:10

When God called Samuel, the boy was "not familiar with the Lord." Like Samuel, the participants in the RCIA program have heard the voice of God in their hearts, and have a desire to draw closer with the God who calls them. They come to us, with varying backgrounds and levels of religious training, to hear from us how to grow in their walk with God.

Like Eli, we have the great responsibility of helping them open to the promptings of Holy Spirit. We give them instruction in the basics of the Catholic Christian Faith, but most of all, we act as spiritual role models to encourage them on the beginning of their journey of life long conversion.

In order to do this, we must be walking on the road ourselves. The RCIA leaders need to be not only knowledgeable about the faith and able to impart that understanding, but must live in such a way that their life teaches by example. In the words of Francis of Assisi "Preach the Good News always. IF necessary, use words.”

The RCIA conversion process at St. John the Evangelist seeks to help people grow in their relationship with God through education, worship and community.

We seek to provide a supportive environment where people can grow in their faith, encouraged by a community of fellow seekers. Through learning, worship, and the experience of community, adults come into a fuller relationship with Christ, and the church. The RCIA’s role is to facilitate this journey.

Come join us. Contact us with your inquiries whether you desire to become Catholic or you would like to sponsor a new member into our church.
